"For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God. Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever." Psalm 86 10-12

Genius, walks, park, egg toss, and least favorite household chore

So, it’s Thursday.  That’s my NEW day for a Kappers’ family update…. for now.
What’s new around here?  Well, not a whole lot.  We’ve just been going to the park, playing outside….. and playing inside …. Isn’t our life spectacular?!  I actually feel like it is.  I think it’s because Caleb is potty trained and my quality of life has drastically improved.  If anyone is struggling with an unpotty trained child– I can support you ;)
The other day Caleb said to me on the stairs “Mom, my dad’s a genius”  A few minutes later Caleb handed me his stuffed piglet and told me piglet was a genius. BAHHA.  So I said of course, “Like dad, huh?” And he said “yeah!”  It was pretty funny.  Although I made fun of Ben while it was happening, I do think he’s brilliant.
Ben and I loooove to take walks. We call ourselves the neighborhood watch when we go at night– we keep the streets safe.  We are waiting for someone to offer to pay us for our labor, but so far nobody has…. weird.  Sometimes right before or after dinner we stop at the “train” park.  Caleb calls it that, and I’m not sure why– I think he might think the equipment looks like a train.  Anyway, I got the SWEETEST pictures of them at the park, so I’ll share =)
How precious is this?!  They weren’t even posing.  That’s the BEST part. Those three make my heart SO glad.

And this is how my crazy-hair Gracie looks at her daddy when he makes this CRAZY noise that I can’t make.  Apparently it’s from star wars, but since I fell asleep the one time I tried to watch, I don’t know what he’s referring to.

And…. Caleb holds on REALLY tight to Ben’s head when he’s on his shoulders.  I guess I don’t blame him…. being on Ben’s shoulders is really, really high.  Usually Ben says “Caleb, you want to ride on my shoulders??” and Caleb says… “No thanks”  hahahha ;)

Next week Ben is leaving me for the WHOLE week to go to Colorado on a youth trip.  I’m trying to figure out how it’s going to go.  I’m thinking I’ll be contacting my parents daily…. maybe hourly…..  OK, maybe not.  But, I’m SERIOUSLY going to miss him.  And, I’m going to have to try and not lose my mind with just me and the kids.  I’m thankful it’s just the two of them right now…. we’ll be ok… we’ll be ok….we’ll have fun… we’ll have fun! (Maybe if I say that, it will be fine)
Last night was the church picnic.  It was very fun.  Caleb got this neat little squirty water toy.  He broke it within the first hour of having it.  I believe I saw him whacking a playhouse with it.  I guess that’s what happens when you’re hardly watching your three year old because your 1 year old pooped through her only warm outfit and then you get summoned to go participate in the egg toss….  Remember last year’s egg toss?  Ben and I took second? He was upset? I went into labor that night after everyone joked about it?  I remember.  Very clearly.  Anyway, we took 2nd again.  This time though, he was much more gracious to me. ;)  I think it’s because I was having a mental breakdown during the toss this time, and he knows that will decrease our chances of winning next year.  Although, next year I’ll have three honking kids, so maybe I won’t even be able to participate. Caleb hated the egg toss and was crying through it.  I asked him why he was crying after and he said “Because all the eggs were breaking and everyone was yelling.”  When we got home in the garage he said “MOM, catch the egg!” pretend threw it, and then started cheering REALLY loud when I “caught” it.  It was pretty funny.
And finally, since we’re on the subject of cleaning… ??  What is your LEAST favorite household chore?  Mine is HANDS DOWN mopping the kitchen floor.  I’m looking at mine now and although it seems like I JUST cleaned it (ok, it was a week ago already), I feel like it’s filthy.  It’s one of those things where you feel like the MINUTE you clean it, it’s dirty again.  I blame my children.  How often do you mop? I mop…. less than I should ;) HA!  It’s always on my weekly to do list, and usually it’s the thing I skip….. maybe one day I’ll improve.  Actually, maybe one day Caleb or Grace can do it.  That’d be IDEAL.
I’ll leave you with my memory verse for this week.  I started this Seeking Him book this morning, and they gave me one to learn.  “Break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the LORD, till he comes and rains righteousness on you”  Hosea 10:12, NKJV.  This Seeking Him book focuses on personal revival, and I’m excited to get into it!!
Until next time!
Melanie
